Alta Montanas, Mendoza

Early start this morning, perfect after a long afternoon of wine tasting and late evening of beer :os

Off back up the road I'm came in on today actually, the main pass over the Andes mountains between Chile and Argentina, this time stopping along the way and not actually crossing into Chile.

I won't rehash the pictures from the journey a couple of days ago, but here are some additional highlights you miss from the transit bus instead of a tourist bus......

This bridge was constructed by the Los Andes military to cross one of the rivers when they were crossing the Andes into Chile about 150 years ago (I think).  To think they did it all by foot is a quite amazing thought, I was tired just having done it with a bus!

This is actually a ski resort in the winter, some great views of the valleys and while it's not quite my thing, I know a few people who wouldn't mind a crack at this when the first snow covers it.  It also has one of the best "bathroom" signs I've ever seen.....

Take a moment, see if you can figure it out.  There are no other signs on the doors, just a separated one of this one.

Next a stop to view Mount Aconcagua, at 6,962m tall it is the second highest peak in the world.  Last year six people died trying to climb it.  The big slab of snow you can see on the side there is actually a glacier.  And this picture is taken from 40km away.

From there it was up to the Chilean border, not too exciting and them back to what is known as the Inca bridge, it's a rock formation from all the minerals and salts in the water, pretty neat looking and at one point there were a series of bathhouses set up with the different minerals in but the place shut down after the hotel part got flattened by an avalanche.

And that's the end of another day.  It's now 20:30 so I'm going to post these, take some time and then try heading out for dinner around 21:30.  It's late for me but early for everyone else, let's see how it goes.
